OLDFIELD TRIUMPH DESPITE KASHDAN HAT TRICK

A superb hat trick from Joshua Kashdan could not stop his Bathford B side slipping to a 6-4 defeat against Division 1 promotion hopefuls Oldfield D.  13 year old Kashdan’s treble included five game successes against Julie Taylor and Judy Higgs as well as a straight game win over Greg Burridge.  He then teamed up with Ben Swettenham to take the doubles.  Key Centre’s promotion hopes were dealt a blow when they lost 7-3 at home to Westinghouse D.  The Terrell brothers, Richard and Mark, were in sparkling form for the Chippenham side although both were taken to tight five game sets by Keith Burgess.

In Division 2, Twerton St Michaels and Newbridge F shared the points in their top of the table clash.  Mark Creedon was in impressive form on his return to the Twerton side recording a maximum although he was taken to 11-8 in the fifth game by Robert Hughes whose brace was best for the visitors.  The result leaves Newbridge F five points clear at the top of the table with a match in hand.  A treble from John Craig was all Newbridge E had to show from their encounter with clubmates Newbridge D.  The D team trio of Gary Sartain, Kerrin White and Nick Biggs all won two sets with White unfortunate to lose to Craig in five games.  A hat trick from Ian Clark earned Ensleigh B a draw away to Bathford C.  John Sheehy and Russell Cole won two sets each for the hosts.

Clive Ellison and Gary Cattermole both won three sets in Frys A’s 7-3 Premier division win against Westinghouse B but it was Cattermole’s fifth game victories, 16-14 and 14-12,  against Jim Wheeler and Steve Deeble respectively which were the highlights of the evening.  A maximum from Westinghouse A’s Terry Parkins meant leaders Mayfield A dropped four valuable points in their challenge for the league title.
