KEARNEY STARS AS WILDCATZ SEIZE CUP GLORY
A superb hat trick from Avon junior number 1, Alex Kearney, gave Prattens Wildcatz a 6-3 win in the final of the Knock Out Cup against Frys A. Kearney disposed of Paul Eatherington in three games in the opening set of the evening before Clive Ellison levelled matters with a convincing victory over Alex’s dad Steve. Dave Harvey defeated Gary Cattermole to put the Radstock side 2-1 up then Alex confirmed his recent form with a four game success against Clive Ellison. The next two sets were shared but an excellent 12-10 fifth game victory by Ellison over Harvey made the score 3-4 in Prattens’ favour. This was Harvey’s first defeat in the Bath league this season. The eighth set of the evening settled matters when Alex came from a game down to beat Cattermole in four games.
It was a good week for Prattens as they sealed the Premier division title when whitewashing an understrength Mayfield A side 10-0.
Following their 7-3 defeat away to Westinghouse D, Key Centre A will have to wait for the result of Frys B’s final match to learn if they are to be crowned Division 1 champions. Richard Terrell and Mark Terrell both recorded impressive maximums for the Chippenham side.
In Division 2, a Richard Faulkner treble saw champions Newbridge F gain some revenge for their Handicap Cup semi final reversal against Ensleigh B a week earlier. Faulkner’s haul in the 6-4 win included a fifth game victory over Ian Clark in the opening set of the evening. Rob Hughes won two sets for the Weston side but he fell in four games to Clark. Twerton St Michaels are currently in the runners up spot after a 6-4 win away to Bathford C. Mark Creedon did not drop a game in recording a maximum whilst teammate Peter Smith’s only loss came at the hands of Russell Cole.
