SLOPER NETS HAT TRICK AS ENSLEIGH POWER THROUGH TO FINAL

A superb hat trick from Terry Sloper was the key contribution to Ensleigh B’s 5-3 semi final victory over Newbridge F in the Handicap Cup.  Sloper’s treble included a 21-17 third game success against Richard Faulkner which turned the match in Ensleigh’s favour.  Ping Zhang was also in good form for the Manvers Street side securing important wins against Steve Moss and Rob Hughes.

In the semi final of the Knock Out Cup, Prattens Wildcatz proved too strong for Oldfield A running out comfortable 6-3 winners thanks to maximums from Alex Kearney and Dave Harvey.  Wildcatz will meet Frys A, who received a walkover  in the final.

Division 1 leaders, Key Centre A, moved into the final of the Restricted Cup with a comprehensive 5-1 win against an understrength St Barnabas A side.  Oldfield D will meet the Keynsham side in the final after trouncing Mayfield B 8-1.  Brian Neathey and Julie Taylor both recorded maximums for the Monkton Combe outfit while Mayfield’s sole success came when Reg Morris defeated Greg Burridge 15-13 in the fifth game of the evening’s best set.    

Newbridge F suffered their first defeat of the season in Division 2 when going down 6-4 away to Bathford C.  Jules Truss was in excellent form for the hosts registering an impressive maximum while Richard Faulkner and Rob Hughes won two sets each for the league leaders.  Despite the defeat, Newbridge F are within touching distance of winning the title although who will grab the runners up spot is less clear with Twerton St Michael, Bathford C and fast finishing Ensleigh B all in contention.

In the Premier division, Prattens Wildcatz moved a step close to the title with a 9-1 win against Oldfield B.  Mayfield A guaranteed at least finishing second when defeating Frys A 6-4 at The Triangle.  Bob Murray’s hat trick for the hosts included an 11-7 fifth game victory over Clive Ellison who also fell to in-form Ian Chislett in four games.

 An 8-2 win by Key Centre A against Mayfield B means that they need only five points from their final match of the season to win the Division 1 title.  Keith Hunt was unbeaten for the hosts.
